Hello fellow Deer Lakers (and friends). The days are getting warmer, longer and everyone’s favorite season is edging closer and closer. Hopefully the Provincial government will lift some of the travel and group gathering restrictions that COVID 19 has placed upon the good people of Ontario. Hopefully before the May Victoria Day long weekend.

That still won’t dampen our enthusiasm for the beautiful summer of 2021 that is rapidly approaching. The warm sunny days and cool evening air will be there for all to enjoy in our peaceful surroundings. To keep cool in the day and warm at night your FODL committee is offering T-shirts and Hoodies with the FODL crest emblazoned on the front. Deer Lake will benefit from the proceeds for every one of these sales. Your purchases will net FODL $5.00 per T Shirt and about $7.00 on each Hoodie sold which will be used for further lake studies, activities and to pay for the Lake Capacity study. Please get your order in soon. Check the website for details.

Mr. Geordie Allen, one of our fellow loons on the lake, has a well written “Lake Sustainability” guide which can be found on the website. Jessica has posted the link on the web page for all to read. It’s dedication from volunteers like Geordie that make the FODL organization strong and relevant. Thanks again Geordie!!

No further news on the First Annual Regatta. Premier Ford will let us know, if and when that can happen in 2021. Catherine Parsons will reach out as soon as we know!! She will also be looking for volunteers so be ready. Time and date still to be determined although the long weekend in August has been penciled in.

Final note FODL wishes Donna MacInnis and her husband congratulations on their upcoming move. Donna and Dean have sold their property on Deer lake and are moving to Nova Scotia for the next chapter in their lives. Donna created the Friends of Deer Lake website and organization and It was her vision and passion that started the ball rolling !! She will be missed. Hopefully, we can carry the torch and make her proud as FODL continues to grow and flourish!!

Don’t forget that sunscreen Deer Lakers!!

Take care and Stay Safe. Back to you soon!!
